7 Healing Myths That Keep You Stuck (And the Truths That Set You Free)

This week I want to talk about something that keeps way too many of us spinning our wheels, praying for breakthrough, but secretly wondering if God’s promises skipped our address:

Healing.

Somewhere along the line, we picked up half-truths and churchy clichés that sounded holy but left us exhausted, ashamed, or flat-out confused.

The result? Women still carrying wounds Jesus already died to heal.

So let’s pull the curtain back, shine some light, and talk about 7 myths that keep you stuck in survival mode—and the truth that will finally set you free.

🚫 Myth 1: Healing means forgetting the pain.

Sis, if forgetting were the standard, half of us would flunk healing before we even began. Your brain isn’t a chalkboard, and God’s plan for your life doesn’t require amnesia.

Truth: Healing doesn’t erase your story—it redeems it. That scar? It’s proof you survived. That memory? It becomes a testimony. Romans 8:28 says He works all things for good—not just the highlight reel.

🚫 Myth 2: Healing happens quickly.

We love quick. Fast food, Amazon Prime, two-day shipping. But let’s be real—healing is not DoorDash.

Truth: Healing is a process, not a package deal. Philippians 1:6 reminds us He who began a good work will carry it on to completion. That means it’s layered, ongoing, and often slower than we’d prefer. But every step matters.

🚫 Myth 3: Healing means doing it alone.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever thought, “I just need to suck it up and figure this out myself.” 🙋🏽‍♀️ Yeah, me too. But isolation was never God’s design.

Truth: Healing thrives in community. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 says two are better than one. Translation? Stop crying in your car alone forever. You need safe people, godly counsel, and a sisterhood that reminds you—you’re not the only one.

🚫 Myth 4: Strong women don’t need healing.

Let me lovingly say this: “strong” is not the same as “whole.” You can run the boardroom, run your household, and still run from the wounds in your heart.

Truth: Real strength is admitting you need God’s restoration. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says His power is made perfect in weakness. You don’t get heavenly bonus points for being an emotional superhero. Wholeness begins where self-reliance ends.

🚫 Myth 5: Healing means reconciling with everyone who hurt you.

Forgiveness does not mean friending them back on Facebook or inviting them to Thanksgiving. Let’s just clear that up right now.

Truth: Forgiveness is about release, not re-entry. Colossians 3:13 calls us to forgive as Christ forgave us—but reconciliation requires trust, boundaries, and discernment. Sometimes loving people means loving them…from a safe distance.

🚫 Myth 6: If I’m still triggered, I’m not healed.

Sis, being triggered doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re human.

Truth: Triggers are invitations, not indictments. Every time a button gets pushed, you’ve got another chance to invite God into that wound. Psalm 34:18 reminds us He’s close to the brokenhearted. Healing isn’t the absence of triggers—it’s knowing what to do with them.

🚫 Myth 7: Healing is selfish.

This one’s sneaky, especially for women who’ve been told their whole life that being “selfless” is the highest calling.

Truth: Healing is holy stewardship. Jesus said love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31). You can’t pour out if you’re bone-dry, and you definitely cannot love someone they way God called you to when you don't love yourself. When you’re whole, you love better. Healing isn’t selfish—it’s strategic Kingdom living.

🌱 Real Talk From Me

I’ve sat with women who love God, love their families, and love their communities—but secretly hate themselves. Who confuse “used by God” with being used up. Who equate sacrifice with silent suffering.

Sis, hear me clearly: Healing is not weakness. It’s wisdom. You don’t have to keep living stuck in survival mode when Jesus already opened the door to freedom.
